Self Portraits on Paper was a one off event, conceived by curator Gavin Wilson and organised by the Bouddi Foundation for the Arts, and presented self-portraits on paper by 24 of the most celebrated and highly-regarded artists in the country, including Lucy Culliton, Euan Macleod, Wendy Sharpe, Ben Quilty, John Wolseley, Elisabeth Cummings, Kevin Connor, Peter Godwin, Guy Maestri, Peter Kingston, Nicholas Harding, Richard Goodwin, Tom Carment, Ildiko Kovacs, Rodney Pople, Ron McBurnie, Jo Bertini, Robert Malherbe, Emma Walker, Jason Benjamin, Mirra Whale, Angus Nivison, Alan Jones and Charmaine Pike.
Unlike the Archibald Prize, Self Portraits on Paper is distinguished by the absence of oversized heads. On the contrary, almost all the artists had agreed to work on the same size sheets (76 x 56 cm), creating a cohesive, dynamic display of close, upfront encounters.
All works were offered by renowned auctioneer, Andrew Shapiro at 7pm on 17 March, the final evening of the exhibition.
This gala auction was a great opportunity for collectors and those new to the experience to purchase unique works by some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists.
The Bouddi Foundation for the Arts is an organisation founded by legendary Australian actor John Bell to provide annual scholarships and grants to support and encourage young, creative talent across all disciplines from the NSW Central Coast.
